St Louis CITY2 Falls Short at Houston, 1-0

Houston Dynamo 2 earned a 1-0 win over St Louis CITY2 in a defensive battle at AVEVA Park on Saturday night. Despite the loss, CITY2 are in control of their own destiny for the top spot in the Western Conference. 

With two matches remaining, CITY2 is two points ahead of Tacoma Defiance for the top spot in the West and two points ahead of Houston for the top spot in the Frontier Division. It was just the second time in 22 matches that CITY2 was held scoreless this season, the first coming at the hands of Minnesota United FC 2 on April 24. 

As both teams sitting at a scoreless draw heading into the second half, Houston broke the draw in the 58th minute. Following a loose ball in the box, Beto Avila headed the ball towards net for Mujeeb Murana, who redirected the ball to the far post and beat Roman Bürki. 

CITY2 conclude their five-match road trip on Sunday, September 11 against North Texas SC. Kickoff is set for noon CST at Choctaw Stadium. The match can be seen live at mlsnextpro.com. Following their match against North Texas, CITY2 will host their regular-season finale match on Sunday, September 18 at Centene Stadium with kickoff at 6 p.m. CST.
