CITY2 dropped all three points for the first time since May 7
St Louis CITY2 fell 2-1 to Colorado Rapids 2 at Ralph Korte Stadium on Saturday. CITY2 bounces back with a road match on Sunday, July 10 against Minnesota United 2.
Down 2-0 in stoppage time of the second half, CITY2 looped in a corner kick into the box that eventually fell to the feet of Karson Gibbs. Gibbs controlled the loose ball and cut CITY2’s deficit to one, 2-1 in the 97th minute.
Rapids 2 got onto the scoreboard in the third minute following a penalty kick opportunity given. Vallecilla converted the kick to get the early 1-0 lead. Rapids 2 doubled the lead early in the second half as a long ball was played over CITY2’s backline for Hanya to get onto the ball and beat Michael Creek.
Despite the loss, CITY2 remained in second place in the Western Conference through 14 matches. Gibbs scored his first professional goal in the match and Anthony Faupel earned his first MLS Next Pro appearance.
