CITY2 Ends Inaugural Season as MLS NEXT Pro Cup Runner-up, Western Conference Champions
St Louis CITY2 fell 4-1 to Columbus Crew 2 in the MLS NEXT Pro Cup at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio.
CITY2 controlled the match for much of the first half but couldn’t capitalize on the chances they created. In the 44th minute, the referee granted Crew 2 a penalty, and the subsequent kick was converted by Isaiah Parente.
Three minutes into stoppage time, Marco Micaletto doubled the hosts' lead with a deflected cross that found its way in the back of the net from a difficult angle.
Crew 2 was awarded another penalty in the 58th minute which was converted by Jacen Russell-Rowe. Célio Pompeu pounced on a defensive error to put CITY2 on the board in the 80th minute before Ryan Telfer put the game away in the 83rd minute.
